What is a Prosecuting Attorney?

The office of the prosecuting attorney is the legal agency responsible for prosecuting all violations of State and County laws, ordinances, rules, and/or regulations on behalf of the county of Kauaʻi community as provided by the County Charter.

The Kauaʻi County Prosecuting Attorney is an elected position voted on by registered Kauaʻi Voters.

Why Are Prosecuting Attorneys Important?

Prosecuting attorneys are responsible for the fair, impartial, expeditious pursuit of justice in every case. They and their team determine how people are prosecuted for various crimes and which cases warrant various charges.

For example, Former Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar was able to get Kauaʻi county to stop prosecuting most marijuana possession offenses during his term.

Why Does My Vote Matter?

Whenever a new prosecuting attorney is elected, they restructure the office with prosecutors that align with their views and legal priorities.

It is important that the candidate you vote for reflects what you want to see within the justice system.

We are essentially voting for how we want Kauaʻi's justice system to operate.
