Stop West Maui Water Grab.
Hawaiʻi media are pushing anti-Hawaiian narratives devoid of crucial facts.
Who’s behind these misleading stories?
West Maui Land Company & leaders within State government.
Why are these stories being told?
To blame someone for the destructive Lahaina fires, a scapegoat, an excuse to push out an effective DLNR Deputy Water Director and Native Hawaiian, a way to persuade the public to start questioning kalo farmers' water rights, and pitting Native Hawaiians and community members against each other during their greatest time of need.
These stories suggest that kalo farmers' water rights played a role in the Lahaina fire. But the truth is this:
West Maui Land's Co. / Launiupoko Irrigation Co. reservoirs filled with stream-diverted wat could not have been used for firefighting because they are not connected to the hydrant system and no helicopters could scoop up the water since they were grounded due to high winds.
The power brokers behind this story are doing this while the community of Maui is still grieving over the loss of loved ones and dealing with the devastation of the wildfires.
And while the rest of the world is rallying around Maui to give support...
West Maui Land Company, Governor Josh Green & DLNR Chair Dawn Change have used this as an opportunity to remove someone whose sense of kuleana aligns with the community and not corporations.
