On this Giving Tuesday, a global day of solidarity and generosity, we're asking you to join us in investing in future Hawaiʻi community leaders by supporting HAPA's Kuleana Academy. Kuleana Academy is a civic leadership development program that accelerates grassroots, community-oriented individuals committed to championing the public good and putting community interest ahead of corporate profit.
As we close the year on HAPA’s 10th anniversary, we’re reflecting on the work we have accomplished together over the past decade and the vision for a more just Hawaiʻi that guides us forward. HAPA was founded out of a grassroots struggle for protections from the impacts of big corporations poisoning our water and lands with pesticides. At the root of that struggle was a frustrating lack of urgency from our local government, and Kuleana Academy was created as HAPA’s response to this inaction.
Since Kuleana Academy hosted its first cohort in 2016, it has produced 120 graduates over the course of seven cohorts, with eleven of its alumni currently serving in elected office. Today our alumni are leading the charge in progressive community organizing, policy and political efforts across the pae ʻāina.
We couldn't have done this without the help of our generous donors who have supported us over the years. We are currently raising funds to host our eight cohort of Kuleana Academy in 2025.
