🚨 Legislative Leadership Is Trying to Weaken Anti-Corruption Bill
We just got word: legislative leaders are trying to water down HB371 — a bill that would close a major loophole allowing government contractors and their close associates to funnel money into political campaigns.
Yes, you read that right. Leadership, including Senate President Kouchi, Speaker Nakamura, Senator Dela Cruz and Representative Yamashita, are working behind closed doors to weaken a bill designed to stop blatant, legal corruption.
HB371 would ban campaign contributions from state and county contractors, and their executives, officers, and immediate family, while they hold public contracts. It’s a basic safeguard that pay-to-play politics shouldn’t be allowed in Hawaiʻi.
But now, instead of passing strong ethics reform, leadership wants to protect the status quo.
We can’t let that happen.
PLEASE TAKE ACTION NOW:
Call and email legislative leaders
Don’t gut HB371.
Stand up for clean government.
Do the right thing — pass a strong contractor contribution ban.

Aloha, my name is [Your Name]
I’m calling to urge [Senator/Representative’s Name] to support a strong version of HB371, and to reject any attempts to water it down.
HB371 would finally close the loophole that allows government contractors, their executives, officers, and close family members to contribute to political campaigns while holding public contracts.
This is a commonsense anti-corruption measure. Weakening this bill would send the message that pay-to-play politics is acceptable in Hawaiʻi. Please stand with the people of Hawaiʻi, not special interests.
